Hello, dear readers!

The magazine "Granat" of the "Gymnasium No. 1" is one of the best school media in the Saratov region. The magazine has proved it many times by winning various competitions at municipal, regional and international levels. "Gymnasium No. 1" pays great attention to studying foreign languages. For 2 years I was the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Granat" and I have been studying English at the advanced level. Therefore, I decided to combine my editing with English and try to create a layout of the magazine "Granat" in English by translating the most significant articles and ever-relevant ones from the issues during the period when I was the editor.
This layout contains 9 materials meaningful for our editorial office.

Enjoy your immersion in the English "Granat"!

VDNKH: IMPORTANT, DRIVING, FUNNY AND BRAVE

We will tell you about our whirlwind trip to the main exhibition of the country.

Photos: archive of the gymnasium

WHAT, WHERE, WHEN?
On December 7, our gymnasium performed at the Saratov Region venue at the “Russia” forum-exhibition. In the 75th pavilion of VDNH, the regions of the country presented their achievements, organized interactive programs, and attracted guests with interesting activities. Our gymnasium presented the work of the media center and held master classes on youth formats of work in the media.

WHO PARTICIPATED?
The gymnasium delegation included headmaster’s adviser D.I. Sheremetyeva, head teacher P.O. Bessonova, head of the print and online journalism circle L.A. Suvorova, editor of the VK account "Granat" Elizaveta Doblo, members of the video journalism club Daniil Kogan and Artem Trifonov. There was also a support group: parents of our students O.A. Doblo and T.S. Zhadnova. The delegation was headed by the headmaster of the gymnasium Irina Rodionovna Grishantsova.

WHAT DID THE GUESTS DO?
Schoolchildren, students and adults with equal interest looked at the examples of beautiful magazine and Internet materials, completed a creativity test, and watched a video about the gymnasium. Schoolchildren from the video club taught viewers camera work, and the representatives of the Granat magazine talked about useful tools that help not only learn modern media formats, but also diversify their social networks. Throughout the day, representatives of various regions and republics of Russia became guests of the gymnasium: Dagestan, Mari El, Penza, Samara, Moscow, Leningrad regions. Our platform was especially useful for the guys from the "Movement of the First" and "Young Army". They asked the speakers how to launch a school media center from scratch, thanked them for their advice. Those who wanted could take copies of "Granat", leaflets with QR codes and contacts of the gymnasium, as well as checklists with tools and rules that the master class leaders talked about.

IN TWO DAYS WE MANAGED TO:
- VISIT THE OPENING OF THE DAYS OF THE SARATOV REGION;
- TAKE A PICTURE WITH THE GOVERNOR;
- CONDUCT A SERIES OF MASTER CLASSES ON MEDIA;
- TELL HUNDREDS OF VISITORS ABOUT THE GYMNASIUM MEDIA CENTER;
- VIEW THE ENTIRE EXHIBITION OF REGIONS;
- WALK AROUND MOSCOW;
- MAKE FRIENDS;
- MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE STUDYING IN THE BEST GYMNASIUM IN THE COUNTRY!
  • ELIZAVETA DOBLO: “The trip to Moscow began with a train, a modest compartment, philosophical dialogues, music… The trip not only set a new level for journalistic work and inspired us to achieve new goals, but also became a vivid experience and unforgettable memory. But first things first. On the day of our arrival, we were already getting along well with each other. It was a bit surprising: the three of us are completely different from each other! The daily hustle and bustle and checking in at the hotel was followed by a visit to the VDNKH exhibition. I doubt that it is possible to give a sufficiently capacious commentary on all the beauty of “Russia”, so we tried to convey the atmospherewith the help of photos. The spectacle was just stunning: each region was unique, and it seemed that a day would not be enough to study each one in detail. The day of our arrival was declared the Day of the Saratov Region, in honor of which ceremonies, meetings and other events were held, lectures were given. We performed in a pavilion decorated in the style of a summer cinema on the Cosmonauts Embankment. After the presentation of the school media center, journalistic master classes began. Although two performances were planned: at 12:00 and at 14:00, we bypassed the system for the sake of an interested audience and curious glances, deciding to work for 5 hours without breaks. VDNKH and the performance on its site left an unforgettable impression, and even spontaneous changes did not spoil it. Our trip became a unique experience, the history of which will be preserved for a long time.

DANIIL KOGAN: "VDNKH is a place where everyone can learn something new and interesting for themselves. Each region reveals the secrets of its area and shows it in a unique way! We represented our region and received incredible pleasure from the interest of the people with whom we shared what we know ourselves. Each of us showed the best of ourselves!”

FIRST FOR THE FIRST

Who does the gymnasium start with? Without whom would there not be a single achievement, event or victory? Without delicate leadership: without our headmistress Irina Rodionovna Grishantsova. It is hard to imagine how important her efforts are to create comfortable learning conditions for us and continue to implement innovative educational methods. In this interview, Irina Rodionovna shared with us the secrets of a successful leader, her life priorities and the achievements of the gymnasium.

To overcome the feeling of fear of competition, one should work, study, watch, be engaged in self-education and keep up with the time

Irina Rodionovna Grishantsova, the headmistress of the "Gymnasium №1"

– Irina Rodionovna, 2023 was a special year for our gymnasium, celebrating its 30th anniversary: the school has been opening its doors to talented students for 80 years, and you have been supporting them on the right path for 10 years. Tell us what these years of running the gymnasium mean to you.

– When I came to the gymnasium, almost 11 years ago, I understood my enormous responsibility: to take over the management of an institution that was created on the basis of the strong 19th school and was always famous for its achievements. I understood how easily it is to lose everything I have. But with the working experience in the education department, I could see both the problems and the strengths of any educational institution. Therefore, these years have become for me successful work for the benefit of the gymnasium.
– What qualities and skills do you consider the most important for a successful head of an educational institution?

– Probably the born character of the leader. And experience. If I had not worked in the education department for 9 previous years, in another educational institution also for 9 years, the work here would have been harder. The competencies that I acquired thanks to my previous experience came in handy in the position of a headmistress. I definitely consider courage and responsibility to be important. You can’t do without these qualities: how else can you be the head of an innovative gymnasium and make serious decisions?

– How can you support and develop the professionalism of our teaching staff?

– I admire our teachers and often tell them: "I am proud to walk on the same earth with you." All opportunities are open to our teachers: any training in the cities of our country, advanced training education for their children in any corner of our Motherland.

– Do you face the problem that is talked about so much: a shortage,
of good teachers?

– Unfortunately, yes. Our gymnasium was initially more successful in this matter, but we have already encountered a shortage of good teachers. Many young people who graduate from pedagogical universities already know that they will not work in this profession. We found an interesting way out of a difficult situation. We accepted many young people last year and organized mentoring. Thus, we have achieved an excellent symbiosis between professional teachers and young specialists. During the spring holidays, we create a vacation school for young specialists, where assignments for different profiles will be discussed. Each has their own tasks. Therefore, there is a problem, but we are successfully solving it.
– Olympiads are very important in modern education. However, they require a level of knowledge that exceeds the school curriculum. Our high school students show consistently high results. How do the gymnasium students achieve them?

– Our gymnasium is a basic school of the Russian Academy of Sciences. I believe that we simply must prepare for the Olympiads. Especially with the potential that our high school students and their teachers have. We organize various events to prepare for the All-Russian School Olympiad with real professionals in their field. We can already share our success: this year, some students became winners of the regional stage of the All-Russian Olympiad, there are also many prize winners. Now we are expecting the final stage, which will be an excellent opportunity for high school students to confirm their level of knowledge.

– One of the main goals of the high school is to prepare bright graduates. How does the high school provide preparation for state exams?

– The school helps within the framework of the student's motivation and desire. It happens sometimes that parents are interested in learning, but the child is not. Our role is to rule the process and make it quite successful. All participants in the educational process strive for the best result: teachers, students and their parents - all together are a great force. Our exam results are really high, thanks to intensive teamwork and great efforts.

- You have said more than once: students of the 1st gymnasium are the best. What is it like: to be the first and to feel the first?

- It is difficult and responsible. When you know that you are the best, it is not easy for you to "keep up the brand". At any moment, someone can get ahead of you, and the best students perceive this painfully. The most important thing is not to take a step back, but to continue moving towards the set goal.
The students are socialized, know how to study, are competitive and ready to overcome difficulties. These are the qualities that we develop in students, so they achieve success.

- Since this academic year, the list of subjects studied in grades 10-11 has changed. For example, study of natural sciences has continued in the social and humanitarian profile. Why do you think it is important for a modern person to have knowledge in all spheres of activity and science?

– I have always believed that the traditions of the Soviet school, when students knew and could do everything, and they were taught it, are the best. The deep knowledge of all subjects that we receive at school is useful throughout our entire life. I am glad that you do not have to choose, for example, between physics or chemistry, because you can study everything. Our students should have basic knowledge in all fields of science, and they receive it during their school years and, as a rule, carry it in their memory through time, understanding how important and useful it is.

– Do you continue to follow the progress of your gymnasium alumni? Do you keep in touch with them?

– Not just continue: our gymnasium is one of the few schools with a wonderful annual tradition – an alumni meeting party. We always offer and provide an opportunity for guests to speak at an open microphone, share their news and achievements with us. We, in turn, "report" to graduates and hold an event where we talk about our success over the year. This year's anniversary showed that the past and present of the gymnasium are one. It was a very interesting event. We make it on memories close to everyone's heart. It has turned out to be a wonderful party.

- Just recently, the gymnasium presented its experience at the main exhibition of the country. What feelings did you experience watching the work of the gymnasium at VDNKH?

- The word "responsibility" is often heard in my speech. I understood perfectly well that the VDNKH exhibition is a great responsibility that we take not only for the gymnasium, but also for the Saratov region. We worked hard, showed our work and were surprised that not everyone has a school media center. It was interesting to look at other regions. By the way, I noticed that many of those who spoke after us and are now presenting their experience at the exhibition were inspired by our model. Of course, the very opportunity to represent the region is an honor. I was filled with pride, and I think the students shared these pleasant emotions with me.

– Many schoolchildren experience a sense of fear of competition. How to deal with it?

– Strive to make everything impossible possible. Competition must be assessed sensibly. We have already discussed that being the first is extremely difficult. But in order to overcome the feeling of fear of competition, one should work, study, watch, be engaged in self-education and keep up with the time: understand where one can show their best side and be the first again and again.
– The gymnasium is developing rapidly, this is evident from the building and the renovation. Can we say that even the walls help with good studies?

– There are schools with excellent renovation and equipment, but the lack of professional teachers does not let them give the knowledge and skills that our gymnasium provides. Of course, children should have everything, and when they come to school, they should feel comfortable. This is an important part of the manager's job, so I already look at this process as a manager: I have learned both purchasing and accounting. When I bring something new and useful to the gymnasium, it is always nice to feel that I am really improving the state of the school. This year we were allocated funds, so we will continue to improve the conference hall. Considering that our building is a monument of urban development and architecture of regional significance, any repair is incredibly difficult work, but I hope that everything will be managed and we will be able to pleasantly surprise the students.

- Let's talk about you personally. Irina Rodionovna, do you remember your school years?

- Perhaps I was less fortunate than you: I cannot remember everything from my school years as good. It is amazing that I remember everything perfectly, as if it were yesterday: we enjoyed attending classes at school, worked for the benefit of society during the fifth labor term, went to pioneer camps. We lived amicably, cheerfully and happily. Now I try to work so that everything that was unsuccessful for me becomes successful for you, high school students.

– How do you find a balance between busy work, family and rest?

Thanks to clear planning. For me, the main priority is my family. I have a complete family: a husband, children, grandchildren - everyone is nearby. My mentors always said that no matter what you do, nothing will be closer than the family. I listened to their words. However, when you are young, you do not immediately understand this truth, you try to be in time for everything and put other values higher. With age, you want to spend more time with your loved ones, you become "cozy". Family is a woman's merit and a lot of work that requires the distribution of time and effort.

– How do you like to spend your free time?

– Previously, I devoted all my free time to my daughter, I was engaged in her development, I thought over every step. Now that she has grown up, I can devote the evenings to myself. I embroider, draw, knit: I enjoy creativity.

– Does creativity help a person develop?

– Of course. For example, I am sure that every child should graduate from a music school. And I graduated from one myself. I had a wonderful teacher at the 6th music school – Vera Evgenievna Andreeva. She prepared amazing concerts with me, every year I played with orchestras and performed at the conservatory. This is a lot of work and the work is hard, but music lessons gave me a lot and developed important qualities.

– What are the main values that should be brought up in the younger generation?

– Of course, love and respect for the family, which should become a priority for every person. And, definitely, patriotism. My grandfather was a disabled war veteran. He lived with an injury and died from it, although at a respectable age. Grandfather had orders and medals, but he did not like to talk about the war. I often analyze how I could have acted in a given situation: could I, for example, withstand torture or close the embrasure? I think I could. Although, of course, until you have lived through it (God forbid that happens) you will not understand the full horror of the situation. When our anthem sounds, when our athletes win, I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. But patriotism also lies in caring about who and what will remain after us, how we will prepare our heirs. You need to love your homeland, respect it, protect it and carry it in your arms. I probably won’t even be able to leave Saratov, my small homeland. It is incredibly important and not indifferent to me what will happen to my native land.

- There is an expression: everything comes from the family. Why is it important for a person to maintain good relations with his family?

- Family is your roots and beginning. With age, you return to your origins, a desire comes to look at your family tree, you ask your mother to tell and write everything she remembers, so that later you can sort it out, learn and not forget. When you understand that someone is leaving and they cannot be brought back, you begin to value family moments and your roots differently. Indeed, everything in our life comes from the family: all the pros and cons, all the problems are from childhood. It is very important to raise a child in a family. Only by your own good example can you raise a worthy person. You and I can talk as much as we like about the rules of conduct and safety, but if a parent violates them, the child will learn this bad lesson and will do the same.

- Should the gymnasium also become a second family for students?

- Both students and teachers, and I spend a lot of time in the gymnasium, sometimes more than at home. Therefore, of course, friendly teachers should wait for the students. School should be cozy, funny and joyful; and the children should understand why they come to the gymnasium, then everything will work out for them.

- The family always values its past: looking back at the rich history of our gymnasium, what do you especially value?

– The gymnasium has always been developed in the best traditions of the Soviet and Russian schools. I especially value them and believe that this is the main guarantee of success – preserving traditions. Over so many years, the school has had only 4 schoolmasters. And there has always been an incredibly close-knit team of like-minded people. All of them were true professionals in their fields, worthy of admiration. We have very few teachers who voluntarily leave the gymnasium, they do it only in case of long-distance commuting or retirement. For years, we exchange traditions and pass them on, and the next generation respectfully adopts them and preserves them. This is important and amazing.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: A TRUE FRIEND OR A WORST ENEMY?

What is the most discussed topic of recent years? Artificial intelligence. Having suddenly burst into everyday life, it influences society and technology, changes and develops many areas of life. AI also creates social and economic problems. Experts suppose that by 2024, 50% of organizations will be implementing artificial intelligence technologies in the economics and social sphere. Many work processes will be automated, which can lead to the dismissal of people and increase in unemployment. However, the development of technology is inevitable. Artificial intelligence is already in great demand among schoolchildren, helping them with homework, tests and reports. But what are these networks? How do they work? What is the impact of AI on the mind and thinking of teenagers? Let's figure it out together with "Granat".

Artificial intelligence is a powerful tendency in modern science, studying the imitation of the human mind’s work by a computer. What attracts scientists, entrepreneurs, analysts? Probably, its similarity to a person, to put it loudly and briefly. Artificial intelligence can learn from its experience, adapt to given parameters, analyze information and draw conclusions based on it. It would seem that such abilities are subject only to our brain...Yes, do not worry, a person still has unique features of thinking, while AI works only according to algorithms and programs that allow it to perform assigned tasks. Artificial intelligence is only similar to the human brain and, according to scientists, a complete analogy is simply impossible. Our mind is unique in its work based on biological processes. Human intelligence is creative, although artificial intelligence is also not deprived of this function, but they are completely different. AI only imitates human creativity, and creating something new or developing something already known is not its specialty. We, people, have a great advantage, namely charisma, flexibility of thinking and the ability to innovate.
The most popular neural networks are ChatGPT and midjourney. Let's talk about each.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by OpenAl in 2020. It uses artificial intelligence to communicate with people. The chatbot can answer questions, provide information, and help solve problems in various fields. For example, in medicine, finance, technology, and manufacturing. ChatGPT has been trained on a large amount of data, which allows it to create fairly accurate and useful answers. It is able to learn from dialogues with people, thereby developing and adapting to new situations. This AI can write code, generate texts (for example, shorten long articles, write essays, etc.), even write poetry, create scripts, and work as a translator. However, using the original version of ChatGPT, everything is quite complicated. It was created by an American company, and is currently unavailable in Russia. But you can always find a good and high-quality analogue. For example, a chatbotthat is in Telegram. Link to it: @GPT4Telegrambot. This version of ChatGPT was developed by Pavel Belov, co-founder of Inventure.Studio and former head of innovation at MegaFon. The bot currently has 5.6 million users. Interested? Then let's look at the intricacies of this bot. Let's start with the limitations: you can send up to 20 requests per day to generate a text and 5 requests to create images using Dall-E. Note that this program is quite bad at understanding requests and executing them. We wanted to see a Russian language lesson through the eyes of artificial intelligence, but got a photo of garlic and dill in a saucepan. A premium subscription for a month will cost 250 rubles. It allows you to execute up to 100 text requests and 50 image generations in Dall-E. It also supports high speed and adds requests without pauses, which can be formatted in voice messages. This version also provides access to Midjourney: 10 free images are available. Then, for 50 generations, you need to pay 300 rubles, for 100 - 550 rubles, and 200 generations cost 900 rubles. Whether you need premium access it is up to you. But, in my opinion, the number of allowed free requests is adequate, and they are enough.

Midjourney

Midjourney is a neural network that generates images based on a description entered in text or voice. The project was launched in February 2022 by scientist and entrepreneur David Holtz. Midjourney is a great assistant for designers. The neural network is available as a bot in Discord. To work, you need to describe the plot of the desired drawing in English, send it to the bot and wait for the image. After that, you can increase the quality of the image and download it. The results of Midjourney are impressive. But here, too, an unpleasant situation waits for us. The free version, which allows you to generate 25 images, has been suspended. Now you can create drawings only by subscription, which is divided into three plans. The cost is calculated based on the number of hours spent on generation.

The basic plan subscription is 3.3 hours per month (about 650 rubles in dollar terms), the standard plan is 15 hours per month (almost 2,000 rubles), the professional plan is 30 hours per month (almost 4,000 rubles). Not everyone is ready to spend such an amount of money on artificial intelligence. Let's look for analogues. We have already told you about Midjourney, built into the premium ChatGPT subscription in Telegram. There is another bot in TG, which positions itself as a good and free way to generate images: @midjourneyfreebot. The developers have acquired access to the original program and built it into the Telegram bot. Isn't that happiness? But we rejoiced too early. The whole day we literally tried to make an appointment and get in line to create an image. At 10 pm our request was approved, and at 2 am we received a result that really met expectations. True, now there is a goal to find a faster analogue.

Shedevroom

Russian artificial intelligence is no worse. In 2023, Yandex released the Shedevroom neural network with the same operating principle as Midjourney. The application can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. The service is quite easy to use. After installation, you need to register using your phone number or email address and enter the code. Then you can start creating "masterpieces". The more specifically you describe the desired image, the more pleased you will be with the result. The neural network works rather quickly: 4 drawings are ready within 5 minutes on request. Reviews of this AI are mixed, because the program is not a wizard yet, but is just learning. But we can say with confidence: Shedevroom gets along with cats much better than with people. By the way, it is the cat that is presented on the application icon. Link to the network: https://shedevrum.ai.Shedevroom

Pros and cons

Let's answer the main question: "Who does artificial intelligence become for a schoolchild: a loyal friend or a real enemy"? It has both pros and cons.

1) First of all, it broadens horizons. Artificial intelligence provides a variety of information and writes short texts in an accessible language that are easy to use.
2) Of course, AI helps a student cope with homework with ease. Artificial intelligence will replace a student at the right moment. It will write reports, solve problems in mathematics and computer science, help with essays and compositions. The question, of course, is controversial: is such help not a disservice? If artificial intelligence performs these tasks instead of a student, then what knowledge will the student have upon graduation? It is necessary to use neural network technologies with caution and not abuse them. Do not forget, the human brain is more important than machines and computers.
3) Artificial intelligence is able to increase the efficiency of a student. A “new friend” will help to learn the material faster and more effectively, adapting to his level of knowledge.
4) Neural networks are able to create interesting tasks and a special program for each student. In this way, they can be useful not only to the "martyr of science", but also to the school.
5) AI will be able to make education accessible to everyone anywhere in the world. Now those who only dreamed of knowledge will be able to fulfill their dream.
6) Artificial intelligence is able to collect knowledge about a student. Moreover, a student can unknowingly provide personal information to neural networks. And what will happen to it is the topic of another large article.
7) Despite its ability to learn, artificial intelligence can still provide incorrect information. A misled student will feel the negative influence of AI, receiving "undeserved" Cs.
8) Artificial intelligence itself can become a victim of programmer errors.
9) Dependence on technology. We have all long forgotten about life without the Internet and social networks. If no work can be done without the participation of a computer, then our creative thinking will be greatly limited. This means that we will not be able to avoid negative consequences for health and development.You can't connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards.

PUMP YOURSELF UP

"How to pump yourself up and form yourself as a harmonious personality?" - this is a question that teenagers often ask themselves, because it is at this age that ideas are formed that will be with us throughout our lives. How to develop your personality? What should you start from and what future path should you choose? Let's figure it out!

Text: Platon KRASHNENKO
Photo: photobank

Let's start with the fact that a person's personality begins to form from childhood due to external factors, such as: the children's upbringing, their environment, a powerful information flow. So, we can conclude that a person is formed as a personality already at the early stages. But if you look at the people around us, you can understand that everyone is developed in their own way. Different character traits are expressed differently in everyone. In order to pump up your personality, you first need to determine which traits need to be developed and which ones - "extinguished". Of course, the idea of a “strong” personality is very vague, so I will turn to the opinion of the classics and try to make my own list of “important qualities and views on life” that distinguish a stable person.

“CLOTHES ARE THE SIMPLE MEANS OF REVEALING PERSONALITY,” –
SOPHIA LOREN, ITALIAN ACTRESS
Since we are considering the formation of adolescence, this statement is especially curious. When we put together our wardrobe, we actually express ourselves, “compose” our personality from the styles and shades of clothing. Wardrobe items can demonstrate belonging to a particular social unit. In some cases, you can even find out a person’s profession or views on life from their clothes, for example, remember religious figures.
"FREE TIME IS A SPACE FOR PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT", -
KARL MARX, PHILOSOPHER, SOCIOLOGIST, ECONOMIST
How does free time affect the development of personality? The answer is as simple and clear as possible. Personality develops through actions. Classes in various sections, clubs, organizations and simply self-development help to form personality. For example, if you like to play sports, then this not only improves your physical fitness, but also affects your volitional qualities. Becoming more resilient with each workout, as well as getting used to a sports routine, you also become morally stronger. And this is just one example. Today, there are hundreds of ways to occupy yourself in your free time, among them it is impossible not to find something that interests you. Free time and how to fill it is our guide on the path to internal development.
"WHEN A MAN BELIEVES IN HIMSELF, HE DOES NOT TRY TO CONVINCE OTHERS. WHEN A MAN IS SATISFIED WITH HIMSELF, HE DOES NOT NEED THE APPROVAL OF OTHERS. WHEN A MAN ACCEPTS HIMSELF, THE WHOLE WORLD ACCEPTS HIM" - LAO TZU
Self-acceptance and self-recognition...How to get recognition from yourself? It is worth realizing that achieving it is quite difficult, especially for teenagers. At this age, problems with self-esteem and self-acceptance arise due to various complexes or, perhaps, misunderstanding from others. But it is worth understanding that you are "the only instance of yourself in the world", your appearance, character, interests are integral parts of your personality. Only by achieving self-acceptance, you can achieve everything you want, become whoever you want to be.
It seems to me that you can successfully develop your personality without forgetting about three important components:
1. self-expression;
2. choosing activities that are interesting to you;
3. and most importantly – self-recognition.
Our personality is a real tool with which we can build a great future or break it and remain in emptiness. The choice is yours.

GALAXY OF THE MIND

"Galaxy 64" is a new regional center that supports gifted children. There are many educational areas here: from literature and music to chemistry and geography. You can get into it by sending an application form for a shift in proper time and indicating your achievements. If you are interested in certain areas, then you should know that "Galaxy 64" holds not only subject-specific shifts, but also special shifts, for example, on controlling drones. Of course, many of our high school students have already studied there since the center opened. We ask them about the shifts.

DARYA ALESHINA, 11 "A", (now a graduate of the gymnasium), SHIFT "MOLECULAR BIOLOGY"
Darya had the opportunity to listen to a series of lectures from experienced specialists and do several interesting works. How often have you had to take a blood test for various diseases, for example, for coronavirus? The guys from "Galaxy" conducted it themselves. Have you ever thought about what kind of worms might be on the street or in your summer cottage? During DNA experiments, schoolchildren studied them and discovered that they are all different! Often, guys who are seriously interested in science also develop in other directions. During her shift, Daria was able not only to delve into the processes studied at school, but also to conduct real personal research and find friends. Many "colleagues" on the shift continue their communication outside of "Galaxy". Such an experience is incredibly interesting and helps a person to develop comprehensively. The guys were offered a business game and musical parties in the evenings. The students of the shift were able to visit Saratov State University and get to know both the teachers and the potential place of further studying better.
DIANA EYDELMONT, 9 "G", (now - 10 "B") LITERARY SHIFT:
"Thanks to the literature Olympiad, I got into "Galaktika 64". There we prepared for the regional stage, analyzing interesting texts and learning new terms. Our squad got acquainted with the work of Mayakovsky and made a record number of trips to museums: for example, to the Fedin Museum, Radishchev Museum, the Museum of Russian Book of the Zonal Scientific Library of Saratov State University. I was also at the conservatory to see "Eugene Onegin". At the end of the shift, we prepared an exhibition of literary memes on the biography and work of Pushkin. Each participant of "Galaktika" could visit it and enjoy a new interpretation of the classics. For me, the team acquired special significance: the guys were friendly, open, and we immediately created a cozy atmosphere in the squad. Each of my new friends was a very interesting person, for example, they could play a musical instrument (for example, the domra). Everyone was “on fire” with their work. I enjoyed the creative evenings, when we went through quests, participated in quizzes and sang songs. We even composed ditties. After fruitful work, we could relax at discos. Our group actively communicated with others, everyone was friendly, and you could find a lot of new and interesting things, things you usually don’t pay attention to. The guys continued to communicate after the shifts.”

STOP PANICKING! HOW TO COPE WITH EMOTIONS DURING AN EXAM? ADVICE FROM POLINA OLEGOVNA BESSONOVA

Eastern wisdom says: "Live, keeping calm. Spring will come, and the flowers will bloom themselves." However, along with the wonderful warm season, the state final and midterm assessments knocked on the students' windows. Every year, schoolchildren face a lot of stress against the background of studying and exams that literally determine their future. It is important to understand how to cope with nervous tension properly. "Granat" asked for help the school psychologist Polina Olegovna Bessonova, deputy director for educational work, teacher of Russian language and literature.

Stress is a natural reaction of our body to changing conditions. Many assume that it occurs on a subconscious level. In fact, it occurs at the physiological level. You have probably noticed that our body reacts to stress and gives signals (the well-known "butterflies in the stomach", dizziness, nausea). Thus, the psyche influences our state.
As soon as a factor causing an emotion appears in the comfort zone – both positive and negative – the psyche immediately tries to protect us. The brain is poorly amenable to any influence unknown to it. It is quite logical that during the State Final Attestation (GIA), stress and fear are the emotions that a schoolchild experiences. Ninth-graders take exams for the first time, despite the presence of trial exams, which are still different from the real certification. Eleventh-graders are already familiar with the form of the exam, but they feel the difference between the OGE and the Unified State Exam due to their different perception. The stress of graduates increases due to a decisive moment in their lives. Much depends on the character, temperament and personal “history” of a person, for example, his stress resistance. Different people react differently under the same conditions. Students with a flexible psyche adapt to changing circumstances more flexibly. But there are also those who perceive everything more emotionally. It is important to understand that stress is normal. This is a feature that is inherent in a person genetically and historically.

How to overcome anxiety?

1) Realize where you are now and what is happening to you. Look around the room, get to know the audience. Listen to the surrounding sounds.

2) Breathe. Close your eyes, count to ten, then from ten to one. Inhale and exhale on each count. This will help to regulate your heart rate and get ready for work.

3) Do not overeat at night. The night before the exam is the hardest time. We cannot fall asleep, we think a lot, we are preparing for the worst. The last meal should be 3 hours before bedtime. The later we eat, the more likely it is that we will feel heavy in the stomach. The body will start metabolic processes. This will take up energy at night, and, accordingly, we will not get enough sleep. It is better to eat something from your favorite dishes the day before the exam, this way you will lift your spirits and fill yourself with energy.

4) The effect of herbal teas is rather questionable, but if you believe in them, they can help.

5) You can perform the usual "rituals": for example, girls can do skin care procedures, and guys can play computer games (for those who are interested).

6) Do not repeat the material at night to avoid "mush" in your head in the morning. If you prepared in advance, your knowledge will not disappear, and you will not be able to learn all the textbooks in a couple of hours.

7) Try to draw your fear, get to know it, talk to it. Understand what you are really afraid of: the exam itself or the result. Fear is a normal phenomenon. Do not forget the proverb "I'm not a coward, but I'm scared" and believe in yourself.

8) On the way to the exam, tune in to a positive wave with the help of your favorite music. When I was a student, I had a song that I listened to every time before an exam - Mitya Fomin's hit "Everything will be fine". It helped to find the right mood and believe that everything will be fine. Take note!

9) There is an opinion that chocolate and bananas help to cope with stress. This is true, because both contain endorphins. However, you can drink a glass of water with the same success. In both cases, we switch to another process, focusing our attention on it and thereby calming down. If chocolate helps you, then it is not prohibited, but it is important to find a happy medium: it is optimal to eat a couple of pieces, not a couple of bars.

10) Proper rest helps to protect the body from future stress. The best leisure is a change of activity. One brain activity should be transferred to another. A tutor or chess after school is not a rest, because the same resource is involved. Do sports, walk, draw, and sometimes just spend time lying on the couch with a book.

11) Stick to a daily routine. This is not a myth! With a developed daily routine, we feel much better. The body rests and is active to the required extent. Go to bed before midnight, spend at least eight hours sleeping. During this time, you will be able to rest and wake up refreshed. Try to go to bed and get up at the same time during the school year. This habit has a beneficial effect on our health.

12) Understand that in the end, everything will be as it should be. Everything will work out in the best possible way, even if at some point it seems to us that something is going wrong. After some time, the realization will come: this was the best possible scenario.

After the advice - a few reminders:
Do not forget, you are already successful! You are an individual, you are great. You have the opportunity to choose something new. All roads are open to you. Believe in yourself. Do not engage in "self-digging", love and accept yourself with all your mistakes. Think positive. Be confident. You can do it!

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF HIDDEN RELICS

We are lucky to live in an old merchant city, where every corner keeps its history and pleases passers-by with its originality and beauty. But there is also something that is hidden from the eyes of most people, for example, the courtyards in the center of Saratov, which, on the one hand, are part of the house territory, and on the other hand, are interesting objects by themselves. I suggest taking a virtual tour on the pages of our magazine and run through some interesting places.

One of the courtyards is located not far from our gymnasium, at the intersection of Proviantskaya and Rabochaya streets. It appeared together with the "House of Workers of SarGRES" (we can recognize it by the round central facade and the openwork edging between the fifth and sixth floors) in 1939. You can get to the courtyard only from Proviantskaya street, if you go down from Michurin Street. This courtyard is spacious and cozy. It unites several older houses, also interesting from the architectural point of view. I think this place is good for a photo shoot.

Let's go down to Chernyshevsky Street and walk along it to the intersection with Oktyabrskaya Street. After passing the post office and a couple of shops, we will go into the arch. It would seem to be an ordinary Saratov courtyard (a little neglected and filled with cars). But this is one of the most legendary places in Saratov. Here is a building considered the oldest surviving residential building in our city. This is the Dyakonov House, it was built in the first half of the 17th century, and on one side it has two floors, and on the other - one.

Then we go up Oktyabrskaya street and turn left into Michurin street. Behind the reinforced concrete fence, opposite Knyazevsky Vzvoz, you can see the top of the mansion with columns. The view looks abandoned, but at the same time its former luxury is conveyed by massive columns, a balcony-veranda and arched windows – it’s a real palace! Having walked around the house, you can get into the courtyard.
By the way, once in this courtyard there was a famous orchard, a courtyard with outbuildings, stables and a coach house. Of course, because Prince I. Baratayev himself lived here, after whom the street leading from the house to the Volga is named Knyazevsky vzvoz. The house was built in the 1830s.

Let's return to Oktyabrskaya street, which smoothly flows into Volzhskaya street, and go up to the intersection with Nekrasov street. Opposite the city registry office there is an unremarkable four-storeyed house which is the first building in Saratov with corner windows. We have only three of these, and they are called ITRovskie. The architect was D. Karpov, who himself lived on the second floor of this building. The building appeared in 1933, and a little later two more houses were set up nearby, creating a single composition. If you look from Nekrasov Street, this complex looks like a single house, but if we go into the courtyard, we will immediately understand that the building in the center has five floors, and those on the sides - four. And from this courtyard you can see the "seamy" inner side of the Reineke estate (the architect is the famous capital architect F. Shekhtel).

Let's go to Stolypin Avenue. Behind the Pioneer cinema there is an unremarkable courtyard. It resembles a miniature St. Petersburg version - old facades with balconies and round windows, decorated with grape vines, there are many entrances and exits. Once it was the parish house of the Catholic bishop.
In fact, every courtyard in Saratov can boast of something unusual. You just need to remember that an interesting story can be hidden behind a beautiful facade.

MYTHS ABOUT OUR SMALL BROTHERS

I managed to talk to Ksenia Gavrilova, a specialist of the rehabilitation center "Wise Rukh 64". Ksenia told about her activities, possible and prohibited interactions with animals seasonally, poaching and much more. And in this article, Ksenia examines popular myths about animals.

"Don't touch this chick, the parents won't accept it later"

Birds have virtually no sense of smell. For example, if a roe deer baby is returned to its mother within 24 hours, she will not notice the loss. Even if the mother ran through the territory once and did not find the baby, she will find it for the second time. Chicks can be returned to the parental territory within two days, and owls can even be given other people's babies. They will not notice and will feed them as if they were their own.

"Oh my God, it's a viper"

If you see a snake in the city, it's most likely a grass snake. (Snakes can have no ears!). Grass snakes have a characteristic stripe behind the eye, and their coloring varies. They live close to people, you can even touch them, and nothing bad will happen. We go out to any report about a snake and try to take it from people. There are 3-5 successful trips per year. It happens that we arrive, and someone killed the snake with a shovel before we arrived. People pass by and say: "That's definitely a steppe viper!", as if Saratov is a city in the steppe. It's a pity that many people think so, because snakes are even useful. In our region, there is a deadly disease - hemorrhagic fever, which is carried by mice, and snakes eat them. Cats can't cope with it in winter.
"Oh my God, it's a bat"

We also go out on any calls about bats, because some of them are listed in the Red Book. So far, these are little-studied animals, but they are being studied by MosZoo. Bats do not drink blood, but they eat insects. And insects, in turn, feast on blood, so bats are useful. Unfortunately, people have exterminators which help to get rid of bats. It is not only cruel to animals, but it is also illegal, however, few people know about it. And some builders may even throw bats down the garbage chute.

"The most contagious birds are pigeons"

The most dangerous and contagious for people are farm birds. We always test birds, including pigeons and crows, and they do not have such terrible diseases as, for example, domestic pigeons or parrots. Those who keep pigeons treat their birds with antibiotics from time to time. But you can find out the effect of the drug and the bird's resistance to it only after the laboratory analysis, that is, there is a high probability that the medicine will not kill the disease, but only worsen the situation. Due to certain difficulties, parrots from the market are often bred without ultraviolet light, examination and treatment, and as a result, the same sick birds are born.

"Birds of prey should be fed meat"

Birds of prey should eat multi-component food such as mice, quails. If you feed them with ordinary meat, they will feel bad, because they usually eat full-fledged food, which is only 20 percent meat.Visual aids are often used to help audiences of informative and persuasive speeches understand the topic being presented. Visual aids can play a large role in how the audience understands and takes in information that is presented.

SCULPTING STEP BY STEP

Summer holidays are just nearby! And that means it's time to try something new. For example, open up to creativity in the Kolokol pottery workshop. We'll share instructions on how to mold a plate in the shape of a monstera leaf with your own hands.

Text: Diana EYDELMONT
Photos: Polina KRYUKOVA

1) First, you need to roll a ball out of clay and tap it with your palm to remove air, otherwise the clay may be deformed at the next steps.

2) Next, roll the clay into a layer. It shouldn't be too thin: ideally from 7 mm to 1 cm.

3) Use a toothpick to mark and cut out the shape of the monstera leaf.

4) Be sure to process the edges with a wet sponge. Make them smooth and even.

5) To make the plate deep, place the workpiece in an iron bowl with a cloth. Gently press it into the shape.

6) The plate dries for a week (at this stage, the clay can crack under the influence of various factors). The product is sent for disposal firing at a temperature of 800-850 degrees. Then the craft is covered with glaze and undergoes a second firing at the temperature of over 1000 degrees. All procedures take 3-4 weeks.

We wish you creative development!
